Michiel is a dual-qualified attorney (The Netherlands and England & Wales). He specialises in Litigation and Arbitration, as well as advising clients in contractual matters. Michiel uses his thorough knowledge of civil and common law to reach practical solutions based on a no-nonsense mindset. His approach is noted as diplomatic and goal-oriented. His specialist knowledge of International Arbitration allows him to quickly oversee (international) disputes and obtain effective results. Michiel’s expertise also extends to Intellectual Property, Energy, Maritime, Construction and Real Estate.

Michiel has been with HBN Law & Tax since December 2022. He started his legal career in the Netherlands in 2005 at WTS Attorneys (The Hague), and joined CMS CMNO (London) in 2017, where he worked alongside several experienced litigators. Michiel is a member of The Law Society as well as the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators.

Michiel studied Dutch law at Tilburg University (2003), where he graduated with an LLM in Intellectual Property Law. He also completed an LLM in Comparative and International Dispute Resolution at Queen Mary University of London (2016). Michiel speaks Dutch and English.
