André Ettema

André specializes in litigation and regulation in insurance, pensions and financial services. He also works on complex liability issues, contractual disputes and legal risk. He holds a PhD on the concept of duty of care and frequently publishes and lectures on the topic.

Before joining HBN Law & Tax, André was Head of Legal at a large Dutch insurer, which gave him an insider’s understanding of business strategy and organizational realities alongside his legal expertise. Previously, he worked as a lawyer in financial, commercial and corporate disputes and mass claims for financial institutions, public bodies, companies and investors at Dutch law firm Pels Rijcken.

André holds a law degree from Radboud University Nijmegen and a postgraduate degree in Financial Law from the University of Amsterdam. He has completed executive education at INSEAD, Nyenrode Business University and General Counsel Academy.

André Ettema has registered contract law as his principal legal practice in the Netherlands Bar’s register of legal practice areas. Based on this registration he is required to obtain ten training credits per calendar year in this legal practice area in accordance with the standards set by the Netherlands Bar.

André speaks Dutch, English and French.
